Description
Career Guidance Institute is a non-profit corporation established exclusively for the support of educational and charitable causes that benefit the people of the city of Albuquerque. Its flagship program, Albuquerque Reads, provides early intervention literacy development assistance to kindergartners from low-income families by connecting them with volunteer tutors from area businesses and the local community.
As a partnership between Albuquerque Public Schools and the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, the mission of Albuquerque Reads is to ensure all students who participate in the program enter first grade reading at or above grade level, thereby closing the achievement gap, and giving young New Mexicans a much better chance at finishing high school, attending college, securing employment, and sharing the love of reading with their children.
