Description
Capital City is a small, award-winning public school of choice for Pre-K through 11th grade students. We opened our doors in September 2000 with about 140 children in grades Pre-K through 5, above the CVS drugstore on the corner of 14th and Irving Street, NW. Over the past ten years we have expanded to more than 500 students in grades Pre-K through 11. We are still in Columbia Heights and have two campuses–an Upper School and a Lower School. Next year Capital City will expand to include our first class of 12th graders who will graduate in June 2011.
Our Mission: To enable a diverse group of children to meet high expectations; develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; achieve deep understanding of complex subjects; and acquire a love of learning along with a strong sense of community and character. We will graduate young adults who are self-directed, intellectually engaged, and possess a commitment to personal and civic responsibility.
