Description
Camp Fire USA's mission is to build caring, confident youth and future leaders. The organization started in 1910 as the first non-sectarian organization for girls, but began including boys in all programs in 1975. Camp Fire USA Central Coast Council had its beginning in 1923 in the City of San Luis Obispo, and currently employs three administrative staff, one AmeriCorps member, two club program leaders, two child-care program leaders, and 25-30 seasonal camp staff members. The Council currently has 85 volunteers serving as program leaders, committee members and Board members, many in more than one capacity. The Council offers after-school programs, day camps, resident camp, and an after-school child-care style camp. Many of the adult volunteers are participant’s parents, but Camp Fire also has college students and community members who get involved because they want to make an impact on children’s lives.
