Description
One of five branches of the Camfed organization, Camfed USA was established in 2001. Camfed fights poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa by educating girls and empowering women to become leaders of change. Since 1993, more than 645,400 children in impoverished areas of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana and Malawi have benefited from our innovative education programs. Camfed uses a community-based, holistic approach to bring about change in Africa. We empower communities to solve problems - to identify their own resources, knowledge and creativity - and supplement these with finance and training. Together we build around girls a supportive environment in which they can attend and succeed at primary and secondary school, and progress into young adulthood with opportunities that include professional training, higher education, and entrepreneurship.
