Description
The mission of the California Council for the Humanities is to foster understanding between people and encourage their engagement in community life through the public use of the humanities. This is accomplished through documentary film and radio, exhibits, multimedia programs and more.
All current programs of the Council are part of California Stories, a multiyear initiative working to tell the personal and community stories of all those who are part of the most diverse state in the nation. The Council is an independent, not-for-profit state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities supported through a public-private partnership that includes funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities, private foundations, corporations and individuals.
