The California Association to Aid Ukraine (CAAU) was created in March 1990 in Los Angeles as a grassroots Ukrainian-American community response to democratic developments in Ukraine, a nation which gained its independence from the former Soviet Union in December 1991. CAAU was subsequently chartered in California as a not-for-profit corporation, under the Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3).
The mission of CAAU is to coordinate local efforts to aid Ukraine in the fields of health, ecology, economy, education, cultural development and national democratic processes. Specific projects are adapted to the changing needs. CAAU keeps its members and supporters informed with its newsletter, the “CAAU Chronicle”.
