Founded in 1897, the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music’s mission is to promote individual, professional, and community growth through exemplary music education, music therapy, and concerts of all genres of music; and to make music accessible at little or no cost to people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. One of the nation’s largest and oldest community music schools, BQCM is committed to providing a nurturing environment that promotes and personifies excellence, collaboration, and community for individuals engaged in performing, music education, and music therapy. BQCM’s students, faculty, staff, and Board of Directors reflect the diversity of New York City. BQCM’s constituents range in age from one to ninety, represent 42 nationalities, and speak more than 30 languages and dialects; they are of diverse ethnicities, abilities, skills, and socioeconomic backgrounds. BQCM welcomes and encourages diversity, assisting those in need by offering full or partial scholarships.
