Description
The mission of the Preschool Project is to provide early intervention for emotionally disturbed children ages two and a half to six years old in a therapeutic preschool setting. The impetus for this project derives from our growing understanding of the developing brain, the neurobiology of attachment, and the importance of early interpersonal experience in personality development. Recent clinical research demonstrates both the damaging impact of trauma and neglect on the brain as well as the potential for treatment to repair this damage. Early intervention is the key to ending intergenerational cycles of abuse and domestic violence. In a time when violence in the schools is reported regularly, programs such as this have enormous implications not only for the individual and family, but also for society at large.
