Description
BNB ships about 3,000 used bikes to micro-enterprise bike businesses, sustainable technology projects, and youth training programs in South Africa, Ghana, and Guatemala every year.
We also use recycled bikes for youth programs at our Boston center. Some are used in our after school Earn-A-Bike programs; others are repaired by teenage mechanics as part of our Vocational Training program.
The voc ed program operates a full-service bike shop, staffed by local teen graduates of the programs and supervised by 2 professional adult bike mechanics. The shop repairs customers' bikes, offers hard-to-find used parts, sells new parts and accessories, and sells refurbished bikes.
In addition to training young people to become bicycle mechanics and community leaders, BNB involves adults in teaching the Earn-A-Bike program, helping prepare bikes for shipping, and participating in rides we organize.
