Beginning with Children Charter School - BWCCS

Founded in 1992 and converted to a charter school in 2001, Beginning with Children Charter School (BwCCS) currently serves 450 students from the Brooklyn communities of Williamsburg, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Bushwick. BwCCS fosters academic achievement and individual growth by addressing the needs of the whole child, and was singled out in a 2004 report by the Progressive Policy Institute as one of the four highest performing charter schools in the state. Charter schools are free, public schools that operate independently of the school district. In exchange for flexibility in areas like curriculum, staff, and schedule, charter schools are held accountable for the academic and operational goals established in their charters.
