Bagaduce Music Lending Library, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation, was founded in 1983 to provide easy music-library access to performers and music lovers nationwide, and to provide music-education programs. The Music Library now has almost two million pieces of printed music in its collection, representing over 200,000 scores and sheet-music titles which it lends to choirs, groups and individual performers across the country and worldwide for minimal fees. BMLL is the official repository for the Maine Music Collection, an archive of printed music about Maine and/or by Maine lyricists and composers. Key to the Music Library's education mission is its annual Young Composers’ Competition and Festival, encouraging musical expression among youngsters through age 19. Bagaduce Music Lending Library relies on support from individual supporters and foundations to cover most operations, along with over 8000 hours of volunteer time donated annually at its Blue Hill, Maine headquarters.
