AWARE was founded in 1990 and is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit public charity. Our mission is to provide information, resources, and education that can increase independence and enhance quality of life for individuals with vision loss, their families and friends, and related professionals.

VisionAWARE’s description

VisionAWARE, a program of AWARE, is a self-help resource center with a wealth of information to increase independence and enhance quality of life for adults who are blind or have low vision.

The VisionAWARE web site includes questions and answers on eye diseases and disorders; hints and adaptations for remaining independent in personal self-care, home management, reading and writing, indoor and outdoor travel, recreational activities, computer technology, employment; and a wide range of helpful services and resources. VisionAWARE also provides personalized counseling and guidance on many issues related to vision loss.
