Description
Athletes Joined Against Spondylitis is an Ohio-based 501c3 foundation to raise awareness of and funds for research of Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), to provide financial assistance to the underinsured, and to offer a personal role model for young athletes with disabilities. AS, a systemic autoimmune disease, is a type of arthritis that affects the joints between the vertebrae of the spine, especially those found in the lower back. AS most commonly strikes males in their 20s and about 5% of all cases diagnosed are in children. Most end up unable to work, to drive or to enjoy a full life with their families.
