Asylum Access was founded in 2005 to make refugee rights a reality in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our innovative model empowers refugees with the tools to rebuild their lives with dignity, using four integrated strategies: individualized legal counsel and/or representation, community legal empowerment, policy advocacy and strategic litigation.
Most of the world's 16 million refugees remain in first countries of refuge, the first country they flee to, in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Despite international laws that protect their fundamental rights to safety, education, healthcare and protection, in practice, these rights are often violated with impunity. Asylum Access was founded to change this. In just six years, our work has impacted over 1,000,000 refugees. A 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit, Asylum Access is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA, with overseas offices in Ecuador, Thailand and Tanzania led by local refugee rights advocates.
