Association of Graduates at West Point Military Academy

Army Military Academy Super: LTG FRANKLIN L. HAGENBECK ’71 comments: "Those serving in Iraq also stressed the importance of the tough, realistic training they received over the summers at West Point. The individual focus on marksmanship and weapons training, fi rst responder medical training, and land navigation parallels the individual skills expected of our offi cers and soldiers in combat. Collective training that involves small unit leadership focused on planning, rehearsing, executing and evaluating prepared our graduates for the frenetic pace of continuous operations in theater. Their comments echoed the ageold adage about expending sweat in training to avoid shedding blood in battle. Recent graduates in particular praised the scenario-driven training involving Iraqi-American role-players in situations that closely mirror those they face on a daily basis while deployed."
