Description
Art Sanctuary uses the power of black art to transform individuals, unite groups of people, and enrich and draw inspiration from our urban community. We create excellent lectures, performances, and educational programs that feature established and aspiring artists.
Our signature programs include Celebration of Black Writing, North Stars afterschool program and Reading in Concert.
Art Sanctuary was founded by Lorene Cary to bring excellent art into the inner city; to connect top artists to the community; and to unite diverse groups through the study and enjoyment of African-American art. Art Sanctuary has presented more than 500 artists, as popular as novelist Terry McMillan and as avant-garde as dancer-choreographer Bill T. Jones; Cuban folk dancers; French and Wolof-speaking hip-hop artists, Grammy-winners The Roots--artists with national and international impact.
