This is a non-profit organization for the rescue of PMU horses from slaughter. PMU refers Pregnant Mare Urine. The urine from pregnant mares is collected on production ranches and used to manufacture a drug called Premarin for hormone replacement therapy in women. As the popularity of the drug has declined, the manuacturers no longer need as many horses to produce the urine for the market. The surplus horses, almost always pregnant are sold to slaughter along with their newborn foals, yearlings and all. The Animali Farm has placed over 1000 horses to adoptive homes. They really need the money to support the rescued horses at the farm and the transportation of the horses from the PMU ranches to their new homes.
