Description
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
The local chapter was originally chartered in 1917 to provide service in Alachua County. Within the last 10 years the Chapter has seen a marked increase in the local service area, with the Alachua County Chapter stretching to include Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette and Levy Counties. In 2003, Columbia, Hamilton and Suwannee Counties were added to the service delivery area for the Alachua County Chapter. Changing its name with this most recent addition, the new North Central Florida Chapter now covers 8 Florida Counties in the Big Bend area.
