Description
The ALS Association, Greater Los Angeles Chapter provides significant and meaningful assistance in the lives of all persons with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease) and supports research for a cure.
Affecting more than 30,000 persons nationally, ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease which causes paralysis of the muscles of movement. ALS most commonly strikes people between the ages of 40 and 60, but younger and older people can also develop the disease. While there are medical advances being made through research supported by The ALS Association, there is no known cause and no cure.
Chapter services include educational symposia; monthly support groups; case management; access to a loan pool of durable medical equipment and augmentative communication devices; and a quarterly newsletter.
