Education and support for people who have Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
Our Mission Statement:
The most important activity of the Alphazonies, (herein known as “Alphas”), is education about Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (A1AD). We learn about recent medical developments, treatments and medications from professionals in various fields of medicine. Industry personnel teach us how to deal with insurance and financial issues. The means to achieve this end are throu...gh monthly meetings of two to three hours in duration as well as regional and national educational conferences held on weekends throughout the year in varying US cities by other support groups and Alpha-1 organizations. Our meetings are held at the Scottsdale Senior Center in Scottsdale, Arizona on the second Thursday of the months October through April and are conducted by the standing president.
Coming in a close second to education is support.
We have developed a network of Alphas, their families and caregivers to be available to any Alpha needing help with every day issues that people who are afflicted with a life threatening, incurable disease have to deal with. We do this at our meetings and with peer guides, conferences, newsletters, emails, mailings and phone calls.
Lastly, to continue our work, we seek financial aid from individuals and pharmaceutical companies through donations of money and supplies. This money enables us to publish and mail newsletters and other important information, provide grants to individuals Alphas and /or their caregivers to attend national educational conferences in cites throughout the United States. It also supplies the necessary funds for the operation of the Alphazonies a non-profit organization.
