Description
The Allentown Symphony Association (ASA) is parent non-profit, or 501 (c )3 for the Allentown Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Hall. The mission of the ASA is to provide a first class symphony orchestra, hall, quality performing arts and cultural education in partnership with the community.
ASA provides curriculum-based music education/outreach programming to help area schools keep musical arts in school. The ASA is very active in the Allentown School District which has more than 73% of children living in poverty (using Federal Income guidelines). Up to 15,000 local school children participate in these programs each year.
ASA operates Symphony Hall, an arts performance venue in Allentown, with seating for 1180 people and a smaller venue which holds approximately 180 people. Operating expenses for this historic (100+ year old) building are high, and community-based arts, civic and educational organizations request steeply discounted or free use of the Hall each year.
