Allegheny County Department of Human Services provides services including mental health, mental retardation, child welfare, substance abuse, homelessness, food assistance, utility assistance, and more.
The DHS Donations Fund supports several programs that benefit children served by DHS:
Project Prom provides free prom attire to high school students who receive (or are eligible to receive) services from DHS.
The Holiday Project provides holiday gifts for children who receive services through the DHS Office of Children, Youth and Families, our child welfare agency, because of abuse or neglect.
The Allegheny County Music Festival Fund provides items and services such as karate lessons, developmental toys, zoo and museum passes, and computers for children served by DHS. These things are enriching to a child's life, and their family, but cannot be purchased through traditional government funds.
