Description
The Foster Grandparent Program matches older adults ( 60+) with children twho are considered at-risk for one-on-one tutuoring and mentoring. They volunteer mainly in schools or Head Starts every day that school is in session. The Program covers a five-county area and reaches more than 420 at-risk children yearly. They typically volunteer 20-30 hours weekly for which they receive a non-taxable, non-reportable stipend of $2.65/hour. The Foster Grandparent Program is part of Senior Corps with the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored locally by Aging and Community Services of South Central IN, Inc. (Area 11 Agency on Aging).
