African Youth Outreach (AYO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Madison, Wisconsin, established 12/2004 and became tax exempt on 3/2005. AYO has joined the fight against HIV by two means:
1. financial and logistical support of AIDS orphan projects in South Africa, providing monetary support for their ongoing programs as well as providing HIV prevention and lifeskills teaching to children served by the orphan projects. The primary recipient at this point is Ingwavuma Orphan Care (website www.orphancare.org.za).
2. Raising HIV awareness in our community. AYO works with a UW-Madison chapter that is helping coordinate HIV awareness activities in the University community. AYO staff are also working on including HIV and the global epidemic within the public school curriculum.
