Description
Malawi (a small country in Southern Africa) has some of the world's highest maternal and childhood mortality rates. Multiple donors are working towards policy changes to affect these rates and send money directed towards helping those with HIV but we identified a group falling through the cracks.
Over 40% of children who die within their first year actually die within their first month. By identifying high risk babies at birth and offering support to their families and communities through the age of 5, we are helping them survive early childhood.
Our organization is a very grassroots effort. Our work is done by Malawian nurses who travel great distances to assist babies and mothers in need. We trust families and communities to care for their vulnerable members to the best of their ability but understand that they occasionally need support. We understand that powerful change is possible when you begin by listening.
