Description
Advocates for Adolescent Mothers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to empowering young families. Our goal is to eliminate the cycle of poverty in the lives of young parents and their children. Advocates for Adolescent Mothers' comprehensive approach, magnifying the strengths of our consumers, results in their successful outcomes.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We increase the assets of young families by offering supportive housing, childcare, and scholarships. Our national advocacy alliance, and the research we produce, influences legislation, and provides practitioners with evidence based practices that will strengthen their efficacy in servicing this population.
WHY DO WE DO IT?
* 2% of teen mothers earn a college degree by age 30.
* A 2005 study revealed a point-in-time estimate of nearly 2000 children of homeless youth in Illinois.
* There is 1 emergency shelter and 3 transitional living programs for young mothers in Chicago.
