Description
A Shared Initiative, Inc. (ASII) is a nonprofit community development corporation, formed in early 2005 to expand anti-poverty programs initially designed by ASI Federal Credit Union. ASI FCU is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) serving predominately low-income individuals and families across southeast Louisiana. ASI was chartered in 1961 at Avondale Shipyards (now Northrup Grumman) to serve working class members in New Orleans and surrounding areas of the city. The credit union exists as a low-income designated CDFI. A Shared Initiative, Inc. is invested in rebuilding New Orleans communities, one neighborhood at a time. ASII’s first target community is the St. Claude neighborhood, located in the Upper Ninth Ward of New Orleans, one of the most devastated areas of the city.
