The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gets demonized by conservatives for enforcing regulations that help keep the environment healthy. Any conscious person can see that businesses need to abide by environmental regulations. Even with the current laws, our environment has already suffered significant damage.
Let the EPA do its job by giving it the funding that it needs to perform research and enforce regulations. While some conservatives might think that the EPA does little more than burden businesses with unnecessary rules, the fact of the matter is that citizens rely on this organization to protect us from companies that act irresponsibly.
The environment does not belong to any one person or organization. That’s why we need to secure the EPA’s funding so that it can continue to protect the rights of everyone by making sure that companies follow regulations.
The Petition
Congress,
Some of you seem to think that the Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t do anything beneficial for the country. Instead, you see it as a burden to businesses. The EPA, however, is a fundamental agency that protects the rights of everyone living in the United States. We need Congress to approve the funding that the EPA requires to continue performing research and enforcing regulations.
Businesses might own the land that they sit on, but they do not own the air or the water downstream. When a manufacturer releases chemicals into the environment, it affects everyone. When a factory farm allows manure to drain into local water systems, it endangers the lives of everyone in the area.
This is why we need the EPA to remain well funded. By cutting funds, you will only make it easier for a handful of irresponsible companies to pollute the environment even more. The result will be that companies that want to do the right thing will have no choice but to decrease the environment protections that they use so that they can compete. It will turn into a race to the bottom that will degrade the lives of everyone.
Thank you,
Supporters of the EPA
