Goodsearch is a simple way to make a difference -- each time you search the web (though Yahoo!-powered Goodsearch), shop online (at the 2,800+ stores on Goodshop) or dine out (at 10,000 Gooddining restaurants), we'll make a donation to your favorite cause. We know you have limited time and money and we've created our products to make giving back easy.
Goodsearch is a community of passionate people -- it's a group of more than 15 million people who together are helping their favorite causes through simple everyday actions. So far, we've raised nearly $10 million for more than 100,000 non-profits and schools through over a billion charitable actions. We'd be excited to have you join us to simply do good.
Goodsearch is a way to feel good--We all feel good when we do something to make the world better. At Goodsearch, we feel great when each year we get tens of thousands of letters telling us stories about how we've helped find cures for diseases, purchased needed school supplies for students, sheltered the homeless and saved the lives of countless animals. Through using Goodsearch, you will feel great and feel celebrated each time you make a difference with your daily actions.
Where does the money come from? There are more details below but in essence, Goodsearch was founded on the socially responsible principles of companies such as Ben and Jerry's, The Body Shop and Tom’s Shoes; for-profit companies like us that donate a significant portion of their top-line revenue or profits to support causes.
It’s a patent-protected, Yahoo!-powered search engine that you use exactly as you would any other search engine. The difference is, and here’s the exciting part, each time you do a search, about a penny is raised for your favorite non-profit or school. The more you search, the more you earn for your cause and combined with millions of others in the Goodsearch movement, your searches can make a real impact. Put simply: you search, we give!
Goodsearch is powered by Yahoo! so you'll get high-quality search results.
Your pennies per search can quickly add up! Each qualifying web search generates approximately one cent (see below for some exceptions ) and the following chart highlights how you can use this towards making a difference. There is no cap on how much money we will distribute to charities.
| Charity or School Size | Number of Supporters | Average Searches Per Day | Estimated donations/Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 100 | 2 | $730 |
| Medium | 1,000 | 2 | $7,300 |
| Large | 10,000 | 2 | $73,000 |
Search engines make most of their money from their advertisers. At Goodsearch, we've patented a way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to causes. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you've chosen to support.
We donate 50% of the revenue earned from our partnership with Yahoo! (i.e., revenue generated from sponsored search results displayed on Goodsearch) when our users select a cause.
Exactly! Weʼre providing a way for people to support a cause they care about at no cost to themselves. The money comes from the advertisers on Goodsearch.
Most of your searches will earn donations for your cause, but exceptions include:
Revenue raised by users who do not designate a specific charity will be used to fund Goodsearch operations.
Simple! Once you have selected a cause to support, the total amount raised will appear on the Goodsearch homepage. For the monthly earnings, just click on the organization’s name or logo to get to its profile page and then click on “details” under "Amount Raised" (please note: you have to be logged in to your individual user account to click on this "details" link.)
Fraudulent searching will result in the user being blocked from the site and/or the charity being de-listed. Fraudulent searching includes, but is not limited to, repeated manual clicks, and the use of robots or other automated query tools. As long as you use Goodsearch honestly, just as you would any other search engine, it's never a problem.
You can always try finding a charity by clicking on “Choose a cause” or “Change a cause” links found on the Goodsearch homepage. For a full list, click here. If you would like to add an organization to the list, feel free to submit an application here. Thanks for helping us grow the Goodsearch movement!
Absolutely! You can support as many causes as you’d like, but only one at a time. When you’re ready to make a change, just click on “Change your cause” on the Goodsearch homepage and select the charity or school you’d like to start raising funds for. This way, you can simply do good for multiple organizations!
Visit our "spread the word" page, and you’ll find a number of great tips for getting the word out.
Yahoo! provides the Goodsearch search results, so you’ll need to submit your site to Yahoo! directly at http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html.
Our image search is powered by Yahoo! and is defaulted to Safe Search mode. However, the system does not catch offensive images all the time, so please report offensive images directly to Yahoo! at: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/search/spam_abuse.html
In order for your computer to remember which charity you previously selected, you'll need to set your browser to accept "cookies" from Goodsearch. Here are instructions for each popular browser.
* Please note, any time you or your anti-virus software clears your cookies or temporary files, you will need to return to the Goodsearch homepage and re-select your charity.
Another option is to link to Goodsearch with the following direct link, which includes your Charity ID and bypasses the "cookie": http://www.Goodsearch.com/?charityid=xxxx (replace "xxxx" with the Charity ID located on the “details” section under Amount Raised on your cause’s profile page. Please note: you have to be logged in to your individual user account to click on this "details" link)

| Medium | 1,000 | $500 | 3% | $15,000 |
| Large | 10,000 | $500 | 3% | $150,000 |
When you shop through Goodshop at one of our retail partners, we are paid a referral fee. We direct 50% of this referral fee in the form of a donation to your selected cause.
Not at all! There is no cost and the experience of shopping through Goodshop is exactly the same as going to the retailer directly. You receive the same prices and level of service, and the retailers are responsible for collecting payment, shipping and returns. The only difference is that you have the added bonus of simply earning donations for your favorite cause through your shopping!
Absolutely! The entire transaction is done through the merchant sites, just as if you had gone to their store directly -- except with the added bonus of raising money for your cause.
You can earn a donation for your cause through most of your purchases, but each retailer has its own rules and some purchases may not qualify. For example, many merchants do not contribute donations for gift cards or gift certificates. For details on donation exceptions and other restrictions, you can scroll to the bottom of a retailer’s page on Goodshop.
If you would like add your store to Goodshop, feel free to contact us for more information at information[at]Goodsearch.com.
We post the data that we receive from our retailers weekly. For some of our partner merchants, however, it can take up to eight weeks to report their sales back to us from the time of your purchase. You may also notice a change in the donation totals due to returned merchandise or cancelled orders. Please note: for most of our travel partners, the donation does not appear until a few weeks after your travel is completed.
In addition, if you are a registered user keeping track of your personal earnings, you will not see your Amazon purchases show up in your individual amount raised total. Amazon is unique in that their technology does not provide us the ability to display earnings within user accounts. Amazon purchases will still earn donations for your cause, but will only be displayed in aggregate at the cause level.
There are a few reasons why your purchase may not have resulted in a donation:
If none of these apply and you do not see your donation appearing on your charity or user account page after eight weeks, please fill out the forms found here. Please make sure that you are logged in to your personal user account when you are completing this form, and that you fill out a form for each purchase made. We'll do our best to contact the merchant and resolve the issue ASAP.

Registration is required so that Goodsurveys can deliver to you the surveys that you're most likely to qualify for. Furthermore, registration is required in order to direct the money you've earned to your cause.

| Cause Size | Number of Supporters | Average Amount per Survey | Average # of Surveys per Year | Estimated Donation/Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 100 | $1 | 6 | $600 |
| Medium | 1,000 | $1 | 6 | $6,000 |
| Large | 10,000 | $1 | 6 | $60,000 |

We want to make sure your personal information is protected which is why we chose Peanut Labs Media as our survey provider. Facebook also works with Peanut Labs because of their high standards for privacy protection and full compliance with the Council of American Survey Research Organizations (CASRO) Code of Standards.
Surveys will often ask for anonymous demographic information but do not ask for personally identifiable information. In other words, survey providers will ask you for basic information such as age, gender, and lifestyle choices but they will not ask for name, email, credit card numbers or address, which are things that can be attributed to you. Researchers require this non-personally identifiable information in order to better understand the type of person they’re receiving feedback from.
More Donation Opportunities from Goodsurveys may ask for personal or credit card information in order to send you free products or information and you should complete them at your own risk. You can find additional details in the Peanut Labs Media Privacy Policy and the Goodsearch Privacy Policy .
The survey provider, Peanut Labs Media, requires survey takers to fill out a pre-qualification survey in order to display the most relevant surveys to the potential survey taker and reduce disqualifications.
Some of our surveys are looking for a very specific type of participant. Trying a few surveys will greatly increase your chances of qualification. If you are disqualified from a survey, we’ll still credit your account a penny for attempting to complete the survey.
Most credits will be applied instantly once completing a survey or additional donation opportunity. If you complete an activity and no credit was applied, please wait 24 hours. If it’s been 24 hours since you took your survey, and you still have not received any credit, please contact Peanut Labs by clicking the “need help” link on the Goodsurveys Page .
You may not have fulfilled the requirements necessary to be credited or ad blocking software and browser security settings may have blocked the cookie necessary to track your completion. Please keep all proofs of purchase in order to insure that you receive your credits if you encounter a problem. This includes PIN #s, payment receipts, charge invoices or charge receipts, etc. Keeping this information will increase the speed of processing your issue with advertisers.
Unfortunately, if you do experience an error and cannot complete the offer, we cannot credit your account. Peanut Labs Media, the survey provider, does not save the surveys progress so we have no control over any errors experienced during the survey.

These are three separate tools that make using Goodsearch and Goodshop easy! Here's a quick explanation of each of them:
Goodshop To-Go Button: Once you download this button, you do not have to click through from Goodshop to a participating store to earn the donation. The Goodshop To-Go button works with your web browser so that when you visit the store on your own, it automatically recognizes you as a Goodsearch member and makes the donation happen! You’ll know it’s working because you’ll see a drop-down message appear when you visit a participating store. As an added bonus, the button alerts you to any coupons or deals available when you're on one of these merchant pages! The button also offers the option to make Goodsearch.com your homepage and default search engine. Goodshop To-Go works with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari.
Goodapp Toolbar: This toolbar works in the same way as the Goodshop To-Go Button in earning donations from participating stores' sites (see above) . But, the added-bonus of the Goodapp Toolbar is that it adds a search box to the top of your browser -- so that you can search the web and raise pennies wherever you are on the Internet! The Goodapp Toolbar also allows you to track the total amount raised by you and for your cause on the toolbar. The Goodapp Toolbar works with Internet Explorer and Firefox.
Goodsearch App Plug-in: Goodsearch App Plug-in makes Goodsearch your default search engine and adds a Goodsearch search box to the upper right hand corner of Firefox browsers. It’s the easiest way to make sure you’re always using Goodsearch to simply do good! The Goodsearch App Plug-in works with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.
For most of the participating stores, you don’t have to do a thing. But, for some, you’ll see a drop down message which asks you to click “continue” to have your purchase count for a donation. All you have to do is click “continue” and you’re good to go!
While the majority of our partners participate with these tools, there are a handful that don’t. You’ll know that a store is not participating because you will not see the dropdown banner when on a store's site, which highlights the percentage donated. For these stores, you can simply go to www.goodshop.com and click through to the store to earn a donation from your purchase. The biggest of these stores is Amazon.com. If you have the Goodapp Toolbar, to make your Amazon purchase count, you’ll need to click on the Amazon logo on the toolbar. If you have the Goodshop To-Go button, please go to Goodshop.com and click through to Amazon.
Absolutely not. They contain no adware or spyware.

If you follow these steps and Goodapp is still present, make sure you have closed all your open browser windows and re-started them. Due to Internet Explorer being integrated with Windows, you might need to restart your computer to fully uninstall Goodapp
From your browser, click "View > Toolbars", and select Goodapp
Some forms of adware and spyware install toolbars in Internet Explorer that will hide or disable other toolbars, including the Goodtoolbar. To remove other toolbars in IE do the following:
Due to the wide variety of toolbars, it is impossible to provide instructions for removing them all. However the two most common methods are to use a menu item in the toolbar titled "Uninstall" or "Remove," or to use Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel to remove the toolbar by finding the toolbar name listed in View > Toolbars menu.
To participate in our program, your organization should be a non-profit. This can include schools, charities, hospitals and clinics, volunteer services, political organizations, fraternal organizations, professional associations, religious organizations, governmental agencies, and more. When you submit an application for an organization, our team will review it and get back to you within 1-3 business days.
We currently only work with US and international organizations which have US-based offices.
There are more than a 100,000 organizations already part of the movement and it's likely that yours is already listed on Goodsearch. Please first check to see if the organization you wish to support is already active on our site by following the “Choose your cause” or “Change your cause” links on the homepage. If your organization is not listed, simply fill out our quick and simple application here. Our team will review your application and get back to you within 1-3 business days.
It usually takes 1-3 business days for us to verify the information submitted and add your charity or school into our database. We'll send you our welcome e-mail as soon as it has been approved. With so many new organizations applying daily, we thank you for your patience!
We send out checks each November for the combined amount earned by all of your supporters through Goodsearch, Goodshop and Gooddining during our fiscal year of October 1st through September 30th. The minimum check sent is $10. If your organization earned less than $10 in the year, the funds will be donated to other participating organizations. No funds carry over to the next year. Checks not cashed within one (1) year after issue will be deemed null and void, and all corresponding funds will instead be donated on behalf of the payees to non-profit causes designated by Goodsearch management.
There is actually no login or password required for the organizations listed on Goodsearch.com. The email address you use when submitting an application for your cause is not linked to or required as a login. Please refer to the ‘how do I change my information’ FAQ for information on how you can update details for your cause.
Where you see the option to login, this is only for individual user accounts which you can access using your personal email address and password (that do not have to be associated with your cause).
Easy! Please visit your organization’s profile page on Goodsearch by clicking on its name or logo where you see it on our Goodsearch homepage under “You’re supporting”. Look to the right of this page to the “Information” section and scroll to “Submit Update Request” to find the form to request changes. Please note: you can only see this “Submit Update Request” option if you are logged in to your individual user account. While anyone can submit a change, our team works to verify this change request before updating it on our site.
Please send us your logo to information[at]goodsearch.com and our team will update it within 1-3 business days.
Visit our "spread the word" page through the links on the bottom of our homepage, and you’ll find a number of great tips for getting the word out to supporters, employees, and board members.
You can use the following format to create links that will pre-select your non-profit on our homepage (and copy these links onto your website or promotional materials). Replace xxx with your Charity ID:
Goodsearch:
http://www.Goodsearch.com/?charityid=xxx
(For example: http://www.Goodsearch.com/?charityid=12345)
Goodshop:
http://www.Goodshop.com/?charityid=xxx
(For example: http://www.Goodshop.com/?charityid=12345)
Gooddining:
http://www.Gooddining.com/?charityid=xxx
(For example: http://www.Goodshop.com/?charityid=12345)
To find your organization's Charity ID please visit your organization’s page by clicking on its name or logo on our Goodsearch homepage. If you then select “details” under the Amount Raised, you will find the Charity ID. In order to see these details you must be logged in to your personal user account. (Please note, the Charity ID will only appear after at least one search has been completed).
The easiest way to make Goodsearch your default search engine is by downloading the Goodsearch App Plug-in. The Goodsearch App Plug-in converts your browser's address bar default search engine to Goodsearch.com. To download the Goodsearch App Plug-in and change your search engine, please click here and follow the links to the right for the Goodsearch App Plug-in.
The Custom Search Box requires the included Javascript functions to work properly. In addition the form elements must retain the names and IDs set for them. Please ensure that the browser in question has Javascript turned on. Then, check the source code on your browser and make sure that the Javascript was rendered properly on your pages and that the form elements have the same names as the code sent to you. If the Search Box code was entered using a content management or authoring system, that system may have stripped out the Javascript code or changed or erased form element names.
If these searches are not returning results, it's possible that the Yahoo! search engine that powers Goodsearch did not index your site's content properly. Reasons for this may include the lack of search engine optimization, including but not limited to unfriendly URLs and lack of accurate meta description or keyword tags.

There are a couple of reasons this may have happened:
