The crimes committed by BP have been swept under the rug, and are continuing to be ignored in the United States Gulf Region. As we are well aware, the United States Fed is ever-so-slightly over budget, and getting more red, as opposed to sliding toward the black.
Funding needs to come from outside, private sources to make a dent in the national debt, and it would only seem appropriate that BP become responsible for funding the EPA until contracted research scientists unanimously declare that the effects of the Deepwater Horizon spill no longer exist. An accurate estimation would mean that BP provides funding for the EPA for decades to come.
The Petition
To the Spin Doctors at British Petroleum:
You are far more in debt to the United States than you're willing to admit. The long lasting effects of the damage you have caused in the Gulf Region are clearly evident, regardless of the fact that your organization continues to turn a blind eye to developing scenarios. Perhaps that blindness was caused by exposure to oil cleaning chemicals that you have used to "effectively" clean up the mess you made.
While the general public is preoccupied with their daily lives, easily buying into the slick ad campaign offered on behalf of BP, they should know that the Gulf is not "back." The mess hasn't been cleaned up. In fact, people are now getting sick and dying due to exposure to the waters that offered their livelihood.
If BP truly cares about the state of the Gulf, and is not merely interested in reopening the wells that presently exist that the oil giant is privy to, consider the funding of the EPA, greatly alleviating stress on the United States federal deficit.
It seems fair and just for a company to ensure the long term health of a region that they are only interested in raping for its natural resources. So please, if the oil is worth what we know it is, please become the sugar daddy for the EPA, so they may actually make progress toward protecting our shores and our citizens.
In solidarity,
Angry American Citizens
